Opportunities upon Completion

Considering nearly 25% of athletic trainers work with a patient population under the age of 19 (https://members.nata.org/members1/salarysurvey2016/results.cfm), a program offering advanced course work and mentored clinical practice focused upon pediatrics and adolescent sports medicine issues provides newly credentialed athletic trainers the opportunity to enter their careers with the necessary training and experience to step into leadership roles providing athlete-related health care in primary and secondary schools as well as recreational and youth sport leagues. Course work and clinical experiences will address six core competences: (1) patient care and procedural skills, (2) medical knowledge, (3) practice-based learning and improvement (4) interpersonal communication skills, (5) professionalism, and (6) system-based practice.

Certificate Relationship to Parent Degree Program

The parent program of the stackable certificate, Athletic Training Residency in Pediatrics, is the Clinical Doctor of Athletic Training  (DAT) degree.
