Program Overview

The program provides outstanding students the opportunity to earn a BS in Environmental Nutrition with a Certificate in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, and Resiliency, and early admission to the MS in Food and Nutrition Sciences (MS 6471) program.  Students who have maintained a 3.3 or higher GPA over 60 credit hours with C or better grades in all required coursework, inclusive of 15 credit hours of nutrition coursework with B or better grades, enter the accelerated pathway and are assured entry into the MS program upon conferral of the BS degree.  

Our food system is a major contributor to human health and environmental health alike. You will learn the interconnectedness of the environment and humanity. As environmental nutrition grows as an international discipline, you will become the creative, passionate, and innovative professional needed to step into existing and emerging roles in governmental, nonprofit, and for-profit agencies. Our program aims to take your passion for helping others and the earth and gives you the skills to help solve the top environmental nutrition concerns. 

Admissions Information

Incoming freshmen can enter the program with a 3.5 high school GPA and a minimum 24 ACT (composite) or 1150 SAT (composite). Transfer students from within or outside of Ohio University will be considered on a case-by-case basis and should contact the program advisor for more details.  

Graduate Courses 

The following courses may be completed prior to earning the bachelor’s degree:

  • NUTR 5080 Nutrient Metabolism (3)
  • NUTR 5200 Experimental Foods (4)

The 7 credit hours earned in the graduate courses count toward the total hours needed for the bachelor’s degree.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Graduates are prepared for further study or for careers in healthcare, public health, schools, the food industry, government, academia, or the green economy. Graduates receive classroom and experiential opportunities solving problems that employer’s value.  Being situated in rural Appalachia, students are well prepared for opportunities to serve underserved groups and those living in rural areas.
