Program Overview
The sociology major is designed for students who seek to develop a rigorous understanding of research methods, sociological theories, and how everyday lives and actions are influenced by broader social structures, contexts and processes.

Opportunities Upon Graduation
With valuable skills in critical thinking, research methods, statistics, and writing, those with a sociology degree find meaningful and rewarding employment in variety of careers. Career opportunities for sociology majors exist with private companies, social service agencies, higher education, local, state, and federal government, and organizations of all kinds. For example, graduates may find work in the areas of community organizing, labor relations, law, minority affairs, rural development, urban planning, economic and environmental sustainability, healthcare, disability services, social welfare, substance abuse, immigration, juvenile delinquency, counseling, criminal justice, and many technical and scientific fields. Employers now look most favorably on candidates with strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, all of which we emphasize in our program.
