Program Overview: The doctoral program in Educational Research and Evaluation (EDRE) prepares graduates for both faculty and leadership roles in institutions such as institutional research in higher education, research foundations, testing agencies, ministries of education, and faculty positions in higher education institutions. Upon completion of the EDRE Ph.D., graduates can successfully conduct research, construct measurement instruments, design research protocols, analyze research findings, contribute to theory development in the field, and teach course in measurements, statistics, research design and qualitative methodology. The curriculum of the program permits students flexibility to develop their programs of study to meet their individual goals, needs and interests. Doctoral students, however, are encouraged to include both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in their programs of study with either a quantitative focus as their major field and qualitative as a subfield or vice-versa. Students are required to identify four core areas or fields of study. These four areas will serve as the foundation for their comprehensive examinations. Students should develop their program of study in consultation with their advisor before the close of their first academic year in the program.
Admissions Policy: All applications are reviewed holistically. The department requires
- GRE scores, with a minimum quantitative/verbal combined score of 1000 recommended,
- official transcripts from all institutions attended,
- three written letters of recommendation,
- an autobiography and statement of professional goals, and
- a resume or curriculum vitae. A minimum GPA of 3.4 is recommended. International applicants must also provide proof of financial responsibility and proof of English proficiency (e.g., TOEFL scores).
