Program Overview

The goal of the geography–geographic information science (GISc) major program is to provide a strong technical background to geographers interested in pursuing jobs requiring quantitative geographic analysis skills, and expertise with geographic information systems and related mapping technologies. Geographic information science (GISc) synthesizes theories and techniques from several disciplines to provide students with a multidisciplinary foundation in the design and use of geographic information systems.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Job opportunities for GISc specialists abound in both government and private sectors. Depending on skill level, career tracks include, but are not limited to the following: data technician, database administrator, cartographer, geospatial analyst, software designer, GIS educator, and project manager.
