Overview

The analytics and information systems (AIS) curriculum is designed to develop skills in the analysis, design, and implementation of business information systems. Our program teaches students to look at businesses holistically, as an integrated system of people, business processes, and information technology. We move beyond “techie” skills, such as programming, to emphasize a functional understanding of technologies and how they can promote business strategies. In other words, improving business processes through the use of technology. For example, redesigning the purchase process at a store to enable payment to be charged to a cell phone, in order to meet the strategic goal of improved customer service.

Because of the strategic importance of AIS to all business areas, it is the ideal double major with any of the other business disciplines. In partnership with companies that hire our students, we have built a consistent, highly integrated course sequence that develops skills our employers are seeking. Our innovative curriculum has been nationally recognized for its quality and relevance to the modern business world.

Special Opportunities

Our mission extends far beyond classroom learning to providing the highest level of service for our students and to creating quality internship and permanent placement opportunities. In a business environment where AIS professionals are in high demand across organizations, our program prepares students to effectively compete for positions in all areas of business. Our graduates have an array of job opportunities in all business disciplines and industries. Starting salaries are high, relative to other College of Business majors. Specific areas where we have successfully placed graduates include business consulting, business analysis, Web and systems design, and project management. Our extensive AIS alumnae network includes multiple placements in companies such as Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Price Waterhouse Coopers, KPMG, Cardinal Health, Progressive Auto Insurance, JP Morgan Chase, National City Bank, and the Department of Defense.
