ENG 4510 - Teaching Language and Composition Content and methods of presentation for teaching language and composition in high school. Not applicable to Arts and Sciences 2000-level requirement.
Requisites: EDSE 3500 or concurrent and Admission to Advanced Standing Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to compose developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with standards for teaching writing and language (e.g., conventions of grammar, usage, vocabulary, and context) in grades 7-12.
- Students will be able to develop assessments aligned with learning objectives to evaluate student writing.
- Students will be able to summarize information about school setting and community context to inform their teaching in grades 7-12.
- Students will be able to articulate appropriate strategies for getting to know students and involving families in the grades 7-12 teaching context.
- Students will be able to explicate a range of strategies for teaching grammar in connection with writing.
- Students will be able to articulate and scaffold key phases of the writing process (e.g., pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing) in order to aid grades 7-12 students in the research and writing process, including peer review
