ART 2820 - Digital Photography


Digital Photography invites students to explore the possibilities of digital processes. Through class, workshops and demonstrations students learn the basics of Photoshop and become familiar with other digital programs. Other skills that students use include scanning and printing as well as digital camera operation. Class lectures address cultural, social and ethical issues involving digital practice and explore the broad cultural shift from analog to digital media. Students become competent in various areas of digital practice and test its possibilities.

Requisites: Any two courses from the following (ART 1111, 1121, 1131, 1141, 1151, 1161, 1171, 1181, 1191, 1200, 1210, 1220, 1230, or VICO 1414); AND SOPH, JR, or SR
Credit Hours: 4
Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
Lecture/Lab Hours: 2.0 lecture, 4.0 studio
Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of intellectually diverse perceptual points of view related to digital photography.
  • Students will be able to apply skills in digital programs fundamental to digital photography.
  • Students will be able to discuss contemporary issues relevant to digital photography.
  • Students will be able to identify the cultural, social and ethical issues involving digital practice and explore the broad cultural shift from analog to digital media.
  • Students will be able to utilize proper laboratory practices necessary for making and presenting digital prints of optimal technical quality, craft, and professional standards.
  • Students will be able to articulate and expand knowledge of photography, art history and styles of photography through multiple lenses (historical, western, global, political, personal, etc).
