BUSL 2550 - The Legal Environment of Business This course presents a conceptual approach to the origin, nature, structure, functions, and procedures of law. It includes the study of corporate responsibility and ethics as well as an introduction to constitutional, administrative, criminal, tort, product liability, contractual, international, property, agency, partnership, corporation, and employment law. The course involves a study of both federal and state court systems, the relationship between civil and criminal branches of law, and the development of certain legal vocabulary.
Requisites: COB only and (Soph or Jr or Sr) Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Students will be able to describe the legal system in which businesses operate.
- Students will be able to identify and describe the essential processes by which law and regulation are created and changed, and through which legal disputes are resolved.
- Students will be able to identify and describe legal issues, risks, and opportunities in the business environment and the role of legal counsel.
- Students will be able to explain fundamental principles of ethical decision-making and the social responsiblity of business organizations.
- Students will be able to identify and describe current issues in the formulation and application of legal and regulatory rules as well as responses to manage legal risk.
