AAS 2110 - African American Literature II: Black Writing of the 20th and 21st Centuries Focuses on 20th- and 21st-century writings by African American authors with a view toward gaining an understanding of the enormous wealth of literature black writers produced during the periods in question. The course will start with the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Modernist phase, then move on to the Black Arts period, and conclude with contemporary African American literary writing. Typically, the course will read texts by writers including Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Claude McKay, and Toni Morrison.
