EDTE 4200 - Teaching Reading in the Content Areas Strategies for using various genre of reading materials in different content classrooms presented. Diagnosis of the readability of texts and the adaptation of materials and teaching for content area instruction presented.
Requisites: Admission to Advanced Standing Credit Hours: 3 Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts. Lecture/Lab Hours: 3.0 lecture Grades: Eligible Grades: A-F,WP,WF,WN,FN,AU,I Learning Outcomes: - Candidates will develop an understanding of the specific characteristics of texts within their content.
- Candidates will develop the dispositions and understandings of the role and importance of reading in their specific content.
- Candidates will develop various strategies for the effective use of reading materials with all students in the content classroom.
- Candidates will learn how to determine the match between reading material used in content classrooms and the students’ reading ability.
- Candidates will work with a middle or secondary student in facilitating learning through text.
