Vision, Mission, & History


Graduate College Information

The Graduate College is located in Grosvenor Hall, 102. For detailed information about the services and support the Graduate College provides all graduate students please see https://www.ohio.edu/graduate.

The College was originally established circa 1936​ and then was transformed to Graduate Student Services in 1979. In 2008 the Graduate College was reestablished to support, strengthen, coordinate, and promote graduate education​ and provide a home for interdisciplinary programs. At present the Graduate College houses two programs: the Translational Biomedical Program and the Individual Interdisciplinary Program. The Graduate College works collaboratively with other university entities to support and meet the needs of graduate students and the faculty that serve them: Graduate Council​, University Curriculum Council, Faculty SenateGraduate Student Senate (GSS), and the Associate Deans for Research​ in each academic college. 

Graduate College Ethics Statement

The Ohio University Graduate College is committed to assisting academic units in successfully recruiting, matriculating, retaining, and graduating graduate students. Through this process, the Graduate College expects adherence to standards of behavior that support learning, scholarly research, and creative activity of all students, faculty, and staff involved in graduate education. All graduate students, faculty, and staff should uphold ethical standards established or supported by the university, college, school, department, and discipline of study. Common to all are the principles that the students and faculty members will represent their own work with integrity and professionalism, and attribute others’ work appropriately and according to their discipline’s standards.

Violation of the Ohio University Graduate College Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics Statement will result in consequences as deemed appropriate by the Ohio University Graduate College, Graduate Council, Office of Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility, and Office of Legal Affairs. These consequences may include, but are not limited to, revoking financial assistance, probation, suspension, dismissal, or rescinding of a degree and are determined according to the seriousness of the infraction.

To provide central support and leadership for the highest quality graduate-level learning and achievement at Ohio University though our work with students, faculty, support offices, and other decision makers both inside and outside the University.

The Graduate College upholds the University mission through services, programming, advocacy, and expertise that promote graduate student success, academic excellence, and an inclusive university community. 

Guiding Principles

  • We believe that graduate students and graduate programs have needs and objectives that differ from undergraduate education and that we should know and use best practices for our stakeholders. 
  • We believe that robust graduate education supports undergraduate learning and faculty research, and therefore it is important that we collaborate closely with stakeholders for those University areas.  
  • We believe that graduate students, graduate programs, and University goals depend on effective and efficient central processes, and therefore it is important that we optimize our admission, application, academic lifecycle, and degree completion services.  
  • We believe that the purpose of graduate education is to develop student potential into mastery and therefore we should strive to place student success and well-being at the center of our work.
